OR Management

Increased operating room productivity and efficiency
Opera by CHCA is a dedicated solution for OR management. It covers the surgical process from creation of the surgical request, through scheduling, material planning, and day-of-operation documentation to statistical reporting. Opera offers tools for all contributors to the surgical patient process – operating room managers, surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses, hospital administrators, supply chain managers, secretaries and assistant personnel.

Increased operating room productivity and efficiency

High operating room productivity and efficiency can be achieved by optimizing the utilization of operating room capacity. Opera supports long term, medium term and short term planning of patient flows and resources.

Operating rooms are in the core of surgical services and acute care areas in hospitals. Opera is the solution for managing the available operating room time. The amount of time depends on the patient population the institution is designed to serve, the availability of dedicated physical locations, equipment and material, and highly specialized personnel.

Material and equipment availability, when needed, is paramount to surgical patient care. Materials must be reserved and prepared on time for each surgical procedure to avoid delays and cancellations. Opera supports timely material preparation. Exact amounts and types of required materials are easily documented and communicated between caregivers and material processing departments.

With Opera, the operating room managers can anticipate long term material requirements related to planned surgeries, identify conflicts between plans and available resources, and communicate material requirements to everyone involved in the supply chain.

Quality and cost effectiveness

Optimized utilization of operating room capacity, access to information when needed, efficient planning, documentation and analyzing tools, all add to physician and staff satisfaction because they need less time for gathering and documenting information. Patient satisfaction increases when care providers have more time for their patients.

Preventing human errors and ensuring patient safety are key goals in surgical care. Opera supports standardized care planning and documentation to help clinicians take care of complex surgical cases in the hectic and stressful operating room environment.

Cost information on each item used in the operating room is available in the Opera material management system. Efficient planning of time blocks helps reduce overtime costs when there are no gaps in the schedules and fewer cases are performed outside office hours. Efficient real-time management of operating room capacity decreases idle time caused by last minute delays and cancellations.

Quality improvement and benchmarking programs can be implemented in Opera. Chosen performance indicators can be followed over a longer period of time. Reliable and consistent statistics help care providers make information driven decisions.

Quality and statistical analysis

Quality and statistical analysis

Validated case data is transferred to Opera's DataWarehouse, which is an open OLAP database. From this database, the data can quickly be generated to reports and statistics. Opera's default statistics include reports on surgical suite efficiency, case load, resource utilization, material consumption, material cost and traceability, unit throughput and performed surgeries.
